Time has really been flying by, and here is an update on the range. We have been busy, to the point that we added being open on Mondays. Why Mondays? Because lots of folks work in smaller retail shops, and their days off are Sunday and Monday. So far it has been working well. The competition and training bays are in heavy use, by competitions on the weekends and training during the week.
We have added a new division, the Cowboys of the High Country. Using the guns of the 1880’s - single action revolvers, lever action rifles, and period shotguns, we dress like cowboys and focus on FUN.
Our membership has expanded, as folks find out how nice it is to shoot on a real range, complete with Safety Officers, measured distances, and restrooms. We have been greatly assisted by Game and Fish, who continue to back us by fixing the road and providing the signs out on U.S. 60. The club replaced an outdated, illegible sign on Forest Service Road 206, which leads to the range, with a new sign that has our days and times of operation, and is located where people can easily turn around if the range is closed.
August 28th is the 1st anniversary of the opening of the range - and we have already had more than 2,000 shooter days (one shooter on one day is a ‘shooter day’).
Our first major match is set for September 9 - the Shoot the Deuce, moved from the Show Low Police range to our facility. Run by the Show Low Lions Club, it is a fund raiser and Memorial for Show Low Police Officer Darien Reed. They are expecting 100 shooters, giving our range exposure to a lot more folks.
We are planning our next project - overhead cover on the 100 yard range. It gets a bit ‘toasty’ on a warm sunny day, and the more comfortable you are, the more fun you will have. Still in the plans - a 300 yard range, caretaker pad, classroom and clubhouse. So come on out and enjoy the range.
Starting May 1, the range will be open Mondays, as well as Saturdays and Sundays. Range hours are changing to Summer Hours of 9-5 April 22nd.
Any ammunition, except tracer or incendiary, may be fired at the Second Knoll range.
